Most security fabricators know, that for a security door or window screen to be classified as secure and compliant, it must meet the requirements of Australian Standard AS5039.
This standard outlines specific requirements that security doors and screens must adhere to, to meet the Australian Standard including:
– A three-point locking system
-A five-pin cylinder
-An Australian Standards AS5039 compliance label
-A hinge security door must have three tamper-proof security hinges
-A sliding security door must have heavy-duty interlocks
As you can see, the type of locking system installed into a security door is a very important consideration. Not all lock systems are made the same and provide the same level of protection.
When fabricating a security door for a tested system, fabricators should be installing a 3-point lock, not a standard single-point lock. They need to do their research and install a locking system, that adheres to the Australian Standard requirements outlined above.
We all know ScreenGuard is a tested system that complies with Australian Standard AS5039.

It is also important to remember, that compliance with the Australian Standard also affects the warranty of the security door. If a compliant system is not installed in the security door or window screen, it voids the product’s warranty. We recommend that all ScreenGuard products, fabricated and installed into residential or commercial projects, be fitted with the lock systems outlined in the above, or other lock systems that also comply with AS5039.
For reassurance and peace of mind, homeowners should always have their security products installed by a fabricator that is a member of the NSSA (National Security Screen Association)
Members of the NSSA undergo regular compliance audits, that certify their security screen products.
